At the Nürburgring the title defender in his Audi A4 DTM occupied fourth place and thus barely missed the podium. Mattias Ekström commandingly secured the pole position but dropped to seventh place at the start on Sunday and was unable to improve again afterwards. Scheider and Ekström were the only two Audi drivers to finish in the points at the Nürburgring. The best driver of a 2008-specification A4 was Mike Rockenfeller in ninth place.

FIA GT3: At the season opener of the FIA GT3 European Championship at Silverstone (Great Britain) Team Sainteloc-Phoenix Racing clinched championship points twice. The team’s Belgian driver pairing Stéphane Lemeret and Greg Franchi finished both the first and second race in eighth place. The German Michael Ammermüller and his Brazilian partner Paolo Bonifacio from Team Rosberg finished Saturday’s race in the points as well by taking tenth place. With a tenth-place finish on Sunday, the Black Falcon duo Johannes Stuck and Sean Paul Breslin took home one championship point.

At 9:30 p.m. the race at Le Mans for the Audi R15 TDI with start number two ended. Lucas Luhr left the track entering the Porsche Curves and slammed heavily backwards into the tire wall. Although the German still tried to bring the car back to the pits, the stewards, however, prohibited Luhr, who shared the cockpit of the diesel sportscar with Mike Rockenfeller and Marco Werner, to return to the track for safety reasons because the car was losing oil. A technical defect can be excluded.

While Audi will contest the 24 Hours of Le Mans as part of its factory commitment with the new R15 TDI in 2009, Dr Colin Kolles is planning to buy two Audi R10 TDI cars for his racing team. The privately fielded prototypes are planned to return to the venues of their greatest exploits in 2009: to the European-based Le Mans Series and to the 24-hour race at Le Mans, in which the Audi R10 TDI has not been beaten so far.
